April 2017 Milky Way & Lyrid Meteor Shower hunting at Lasau Podi - Kota Belud, Sabah

Sabah Stargazer organized a one night Milky Way cum Lyrid meteor shower hunting on 22nd April 2017. This round I'm all geared up as I just bought a new tripod! Happily, we joined them around 1am at Lasau Podi, Kota Belud and below were some of the Milky Way photos taken using my Sony RX 100 camera. The Milky Way view from Lasau Podi was the best so far because of its dark sky. The area was pitch black and watched out for cow dung! Road heading to Lasau Podi was dark without any street light. Beware of cows on the road!

We stayed until 3am as the clouds slowly invaded the night sky by then. Sadly, I only managed to see 4 meteors that night because I was too busy photographing the Milky Way. However, I'm glad that I saw a fireball. Apart from that, thanks to one of the Stargazer who brought his telescope along and showed us Jupiter and Saturn. It was amazing! We can actually see 4 of Jupiter's moon and Saturn's ring from the telescope.

Note: We booked a night at Times Traveller Lodge located in Kota Belud (30 minutes drive from Lasau Podi) and took a rest before heading back to Kota Kinabalu.
